K6KJQ has constructed a new UHF repeater on 444.325 MHZ + with a PL of 94.8. This is a low level repeater in the Stockton, CA area and will serve local amateurs, as well as provide for emergency communications for the Stockton Police Department. The repeater resides in its permenant location and is on the air.
NARCC STATUS: COORDINATED
Putting a repeater on the air for the first time is a challenge for the amateur. No pun intended. Tuning this vintage commercial Micor was a challenge and making it function properly presented additional learning curves. Mistakes result in time and money. This vintage Motorola Micor has been equipped with dual cooling fans, an Arcom controller and a brand new power supply. The fans are activated by the contrller. When a transmission is made, the fans come on and remain running for one minute after the last transmission. Programmed announcements do not activate the fans. The easiest part was manhandling this monster to the roof of a two story building.

REPEATER - ANTENNAS - TOWER
It may look small, but it took three strong men to get it up there.
The new antenna will be placed at the top of this tower, improving the signal.

EMERGENCY COMMAND CENTER
Work is underway to set up the once known RACES room. For a long period of time, this room has been abandoned and used for storage. Here are some pictures of the challenge ahead. This room will once again be functional and available in the event of an emergency, but will not be RACES affiliated.
All misc storage has been removed, radios connected and is now functional in the event of an emergency.

Use Good Operating Practice
Over the years, hams hve neglected to use good operating practice. Although this is an open repeater and any licensed ham is welcome to operate here, following some simple guidelines is appreciated.
When calling and your party doesn't reply, don't sign off with an ID.
You ID'd when you called your party.
Don't use the term "For ID."
If it isn't for ID, what's it for?
Don't Kerchunk the repeater. It's illegal and annoying!
When requested, give an accurate report.
When someone sounds bad, tell him/her.
Use Appropriate Language
Keep it clean for all listeners.
CELL PHONE RADIATION
If an expensive ticket and/or the danger of using a cell phone while driving doesn't have an effect on you, consider the electric field strength radiated by a mobile phone inside your vehicle.
